Raiders fall in NS final
Mar 28, 2005 - Another successful weekend of hockey has come and gone and The Barrington Ice Dogs took the Provincial title with a 4-1 win over the host Raiders. The Ice Dogs advanced to the final with a 5-1 win over the Penguins, while the Raiders defeated North Shore 3-1 in their semi-final to advance.
A tired and injury-plagued Yarmouth team fell behind early to the Ice Dogs and had no gas left in the tank to mount any sort of a comeback. "I was very proud of the entire team effort put forth during our provincial weekend. Although we came up short, I am confident that the players gave everything they had, and as a coach, that is all you can ask for," noted Coach Darren Thibeau.
The Raiders will be parting with long time team members Jevon Titus, Camille Jacquard & Brandon d'Entremont. It will be hard to replace these quality players. All 3 players were big contributers to the team and will be missed!

Ice Dogs down Raiders
Mar 5, 2005 - About 1000 fans from both communities witnessed a great West Division final, with the Ice Dogs going home with a 5-4 overtime victory. It was sweet revenge for the Ice Dogs, who were victims last year on home ice in the league final as the Raiders took a 2-1 overtime victory in game seven. A three-peat was not in the cards this time for the Raiders.
While the Ice Dogs and Penguins battle it out in the League Final, the remaining teams are gearing up for provincials March 25, 26 & 27 in Yarmouth. The Raiders will open up the tournament Friday, March 25 at 8pm versus the Barrington Ice Dogs. The Provincial Champion will represent Nova Scotia at The Maritime and Northern Championships held in Tignish, PEI, March 31-April 3.
Split decision 2
Feb 28, 2005 - Game three of the West Divison Final in Yarmouth saw Nolan Fitzgerald score the double OT winner for the Raiders in a 2-1 win over the Barrington Ice Dogs. A crowd of almost 600 people witnessed a very energized game of cross-town rivals.
Game four in Barrington saw another packed house as the Raiders fell short in a 5-4 loss. Game officials were sloppy at best and ruined any chances of a Raider comeback. The series, as most have expected, will go the distance in Game five in Yarmouth Friday March 4th at 8pm. This will be a showdown in Y-town. East Hants meanwhile defeated North Shore to advance to the league final.
Split decision
Feb 21, 2005 - The Yarmouth Junior 'C' Raiders opened the West Division final on Saturday night in Barrington against the Ice Dogs and didn't fair very well in a 4-1 loss. The Raiders gave up two shorthanded goals in the third period which deflated any chance of a comeback. Colin Boudreau scored the lone goal for Yarmouth.
In game two on Sunday at home, the Raiders finally found some offence in a 6-2 swatting of the Ice Dogs. Four first period goals, including three in 53 seconds, was enough to send the Dogs home with their tails between their legs. Shawn Muise had five points for the Raiders, while Jevon Titus added four of his own. Game three will be in Yarmouth on Saturday, February 26 at 7:30pm, with game four going in Barrington on Sunday at 3:30pm.
Raiders sail on
Feb 14, 2005 - Friday night's game in Yarmouth met all expectations as Yarmouth and the Valley Keiths battled for their playoff lives. The Raiders squeaked out a 2-1 victory with Ryan Forrest potting both of Yarmouth goals. In a meaningless Sunday game in Barrington, the Raiders lost 5-1. A short Yarmouth bench did fairly well in the game.
The Raiders will now play a best of five West Divsion Final versus the Barrington Ice Dogs. The rivalry between Yarmouth and Barrington goes back many years and is guaranteed to be a battle to the end. "Both clubs have a lot of players who battled it out last year in the league final. This is sure to be a hard fought series," predicts Raider Coach Thibeau.
Backs against boards
Feb 6, 2005 - The Raiders managed only a single point in their first two playoff games. The Valley Keiths also managed only one point in a tie versus the Raiders. With the Yarmouth goalie pulled, Jevon Titus scored with 46 seconds left to tie the game at 3-3. The five minute OT solved nothing. The Barrington Ice Dogs on the other hand offered no mercy to Yarmouth with a 5-3 defeat of the Raiders. The Ice Dogs didn't stop there as they hammered the Keiths 7-3 in Barrington. That win secured a spot in the division final for the Ice Dogs.
Raiders win wild west
Feb 1, 2005 - In their last two home games, Yarmouth defeated the Ice Dogs 3-1 and fell to the Keiths 5-3. The latter game didn't mean much, as the Raiders had secured first place with the Keiths OT win over the Ice Dogs on Saturday night. Jevon Titus assisted on all 6 Raider goals over the weekend.
Season Recap: The season started out a bit rough having Brandon D'Eentremont and Jevon Titus out with injuries before the season started. Tim Clayton stepped up for the Raiders and added 30 points while also holding down the fort on the point. Rookie Luke Sarginson came in as an unknown and now is a fan favorite. Fellow rookie Shawn Muise tied Sarginson for first in rookie points with 12, although Muise played only 8 games.
The team was not without its share of injuries, and had its share of work and school commitments as well, leaving the team short for more than a few games. During this time players like Roland Nickerson, George D'Entremont and Blake Trask filled in on both defence and forward. Jevon Titus (15 games) and Camille Jacquard (17 games) tied for the team scoring lead with 32 points.
The team looks forward to the real season when the Round Robin starts in Yarmouth versus the Barrington Ice Dogs on Feb 4th. One bad weekend of hockey and a team will be sitting for a while. It's well-known that Valley, Barrington, and Yarmouth have very evenly matched teams when everyone shows up. Only one thing is certain -- one good team will lose out early and have to occupy their time until Provincials.
Comeback Crew
Jan 24, 2005 - Yarmouth trailed the Barrington Ice Dogs by 3 late in the second period when the Raider powerplay scored 2 goals. Third period action saw the Raiders continue the comeback as they scored 3 more goals to cap a 5-3 win. Captain Jevon Titus led the way with 2 goals and 2 assists. Camille Jacquard added 2 goals as well, including the game winner. Andrew White was also a bright spot adding a goal and 2 assists.
Yarmouth goaltender Kyle Boudreau posted his league-leading 12th win and sports a respectable 3.55 GAA. The Raiders have 3 regular season games left, two versus Barrington and one against the Valley Keiths.
Bridgetown Letdown
Jan 16, 2005 - The Yarmouth Raiders ended the Bridgetown tournament with 1-2 record. Game one versus the East Hants Penguins ended in a 3-2 win for the Raiders. In game two against the Fundy Phantoms, the Raiders were haunted by a very impressive Phantom goalie in a 2-1 loss. In Sunday's quarter-final the Raiders met the Barrington Ice Dogs and were victims of a 3-2 defeat. The Raiders appeared to have left their team offence back in Yarmouth as they managed only 6 goals in 3 games. For the most part, the Raiders lost many individual battles throughout the weekend, and were out-muscled in the Barrington game.
Defenceman Blake Trask was the only Raider to play well in all the tournament games. Team scoring leaders Jevon Titus and Camille Jacquard were held scoreless.
The Ice Dogs showed great stamina in Sunday action defeating the Valley Keiths in double overtime in the semi-final, then went on to beat North Shore 7-3 in the final. Congratulations to the Ice Dogs who were in fact "Ice Dogs" on this day! Thanks again to the Valley Keiths on another great tournament!
Hats off to Nolan
Jan 10, 2005 - Nolan Fitzgerald led the Raider way with a hat trick as Yarmouth handed the Barrington Ice Dogs an 8-3 defeat on Friday night. Camille Jacquard chipped in 2 goals while Brandon D'Entremont, Blake Trask, and Andrew White added singles. Sean Muise and Trask each added 3 assists in the victory.
On Saturday night in Bridgetown, the Raiders could not hold off the Valley Keith's as they scored 2 unanswered goals in the 3rd period to steal a 5-4 victory. Once again Nolan Fitzgerald led the way with 2 goals and 1 assist, Sean Muise also had a goal and a assist. Defenceman Ryan Forrest added the other Raider goal. The Raiders were once again victims of having only a couple of players carry the offensive load. Nolan Fitzgerald totaled 7 points while Sean Muise totaled 5 points for the 2 game weekend. With some key Raider players missing from the Valley game, Muise, Fitzgerald, and Ryan Forrest were the bright spots in the loss at Bridgetown.
Valley White-washed
Dec 12, 2004 - Raider defencemen Jeff Aucoin, Tim Clayton and Roland Nickerson each scored a goal to help the Raiders end the Valley Keith's 6-game winning streak with a 6-4 victory. Jevon Titus, Andrew White and Colin Boudreau rounded out the Raider scoring. Andrew White also added 3 assists, while Jeff Aucoin added 2 assists. Both goalies were kept busy facing over 40 shots apiece.
Raiders find defence
Nov 28, 2004 - The Yarmouth Junior 'C' Raiders bounced back to their early season this past weekend, posting a 5-2 win over the East Hants Penguins and a 9-0 win over the Fundy Phantoms. Goaltender Kyle Boudreau shored up the Yarmouth defensive end, allowing only 2 goals in 2 games. Rookie Stephen MacKay added 2 goals and 4 assists over the weekend. Fellow rookies Luke Sarginson and Jamie Comeau played well in both ends of the rink for the Raiders.
Raiders stumbling lately
Nov 21, 2004 - The Valley Keith's came to town and handed Yarmouth its first home loss of the season. The Valley also went home as new division leaders. The Raiders took 10 minor penalties and could not muster up enough offence to take control of the game. With a couple unlucky bounces, the Keiths left with a 7-4 victory.
The battle gets tougher when the East Hants Penguins come to town on Friday, November 26th at 8:30pm. The Raiders will try to break their 3-game losing streak. A much improved Fundy Phantoms team arrives in Yarmouth on Saturday, November 27th at 7pm.
Ice Dogs maul Raiders
Nov 10, 2004 - This time a short Yarmouth bench could not compete with the Barrington Ice Dogs. The Dogs skated for three solid periods on their way to an 11-3 whipping of the Raiders. Kyle Boudreau allowed 7 goals in the net on 17 shots. Affiliate goaltender Tim Pothier was a bit steadier in relief, allowing 4 goals on 22 shots. After humiliating defeats at the hands of the Valley Keiths & Barrington Ice Dogs, Yarmouth will have this coming weekend off, giving the team a chance to regroup for a home game against the Valley Keiths on November 21st at 6pm.
Valley ends unbeaten streak
Nov 7, 2004 - Yarmouth controlled Barrington in a 6-2 victory, and strong goaltending from Kyle Boudreau was the difference in the game. But on Sunday, Yarmouth's 4-game winning streak came to an end as the Valley Keiths sent the Raiders packing with a 7-3 defeat. The game was close until the third period when the wheels fell off for the Yarmouth players. Jevon Titus had a four goal weekend for the Raiders.
"Our team still has a long way to go, we cannot afford to rely on a few players to win games for us...it takes a team effort from top to bottom. Having a full bench this weekend, we were expecting a better effort in both games and the team was far from the level we were expecting."
Raiders ice Pens
Oct 31, 2004 - A battle of first place teams resulted in 4-3 win for the Yarmouth Raiders over the East Hants Penguins. From the goaltenders on out, both teams battled every shift in a game that could have went either way. "It was like a prize fight atmosphere...every hit drew cheers, every shot was big, and every goal was huge. We took the play to them late and potted the winner off of an offensive face-off. This type of game is why I love coaching!", beamed Coach Thibeau. Yarmouth will now look ahead to the weekend, where they will face the Barrington Ice Dogs at home and the Valley Keiths in Digby.
Ice Dogs put down
Oct 24, 2004 - This past weekend the Raiders earned a split with the Valley. Yarmouth's Colin Boudreau got the game winner in Sunday's match at 5:54 of the 3rd period. "The team had a better effort this weekend, but the players will have to commit themselves to playing 3 solid periods of hockey. We will have to work at this if we want to have any sort of success in this league.", said coach Darren Thibeau.
One & one weekend
Oct 17, 2004 - The Yarmouth Raiders redeeemed themselves from their previous 8-1 loss to the Barrington Ice Dogs. Having only 8 skaters in the line-up this time, it appeared to be the right eight. Playing a smart and disciplined game, backed by another strong goaltending performance by Kyle Boudreau, Yarmouth was able to steal a 4-3 win in the Ice Dogs home rink. Tim Clayton started things off with 2 goals, then Jamie Comeau added a third. Camille Jacquard potted the game winner while team captain Jevon Titus added 2 assists. Rookie Luke Sarginson turned in another solid outing and added an assist.
Ice Dogs rule the day
Oct 13, 2004 - Wednesday night in Barrington wasn't very fun for the Yarmouth Junior C's, as the Ice Dogs romped all over the Raiders 8-1. Head Coach Darren Thibeau was unhappy with his team's performance, "This was a very disapointing loss. There was no team effort. If this lackluster effort continues there may have to be changes made within our team. Yarmouth will not support a team that plays like we did in Barrington!"
A great regular season start
Oct 3, 2004 - The Yarmouth Raiders started their regular season off in style with a successful opening weekend. On Saturday in Bridgetown, the Raiders defeated the Valley Keiths 4-3. In their home opener on Sunday the Tatamagouche Titans came to town and went home 6-4 losers thanks to Roland Nickerson's hat-trick. Coach Thibeau was quite pleased with the way things went, "It was a real team effort that enabled us to win both games this past weekend".
Raiders held scoreless
Sep 27, 2004 - The Yarmouth Raiders were shutout 10-0 and 2-0 by the Barrington Ice Dogs last weekend. Having only 2 regular season players from last year in the weekend lineup, the Raiders couldn't muster up any offence.
In Barrington on Saturday, Yarmouth had a short bench and couldn't hold off the Ice Dog attack. Raiders' goaltenders faced 51 shots. Goalie Vernon Saulnier was solid in his 2 periods of play, stopping 20 of 21 shots in the first period alone. Affiliate goaltender Tim Pothier entered the 3rd period and, with a tired team in front of him, allowed 6 goals on 20 shots.
On Sunday in Yarmouth, things were a little tighter, but again the Raiders could not bury the puck. Six undisciplined minor penalties in the third period erased any chance of a comeback. Again, goaltending was the only shining point as Kyle Boudreau, last seasons playoff and regular season goaltender MVP, kept the game within reach. "Despite the 2 shutout losses, the games gave the coaching staff a good opportunity to evaluate the new players trying out for the team," said Coach Thibeau.
Former Raider to help out
Sep 19, 2004 - Kevin Doucet, who played one year with the Clare Zeniths and the last four years with Yarmouth, has agreed to help out behind the Raider bench this season. Doucet was the last remaining player from the West Nova league's inaugural year of 1998-99. The team is looking forward to having Kevin behind the bench this season.
Assistant Cushing steps down
Sept 7, 2004 - Assistant coach Lorne Cushing is stepping down after 4 years with the Yarmouth Raiders & over 30 years of coaching. He will be replaced by Jeff Bain, who will add some new energy to the team for this upcoming season. Lorne will be missed!
